Feeding a German Shepherd by Life Stage

Protein, fat and calcium targets from twelve weeks to senior years, with portion maths for a 32 kg working-line adult.
Training Guides

This one’s built the same way as the training guide — same design system, but slotted into the Health & Nutrition category with a working TOC, data tables, and callouts. On content, a couple of things worth flagging since these numbers matter for a growing puppy:

  • All targets are grounded in real veterinary nutrition standards — AAFCO’s Growth & Reproduction / Adult Maintenance nutrient profiles and standard RER/MER energy formulas — not invented figures. Where a bag’s own numbers are used (the “worked example” step), I’ve labeled it as an illustrative example, not a specific real product.
  • The growth-stage calcium ceiling (1.8% DM for large breeds) is the one section I’d ask your client’s vet reviewer to sanity-check before publishing — it’s the highest-stakes number in the whole article, since getting it wrong is a known cause of skeletal problems in large-breed puppies.
  • The senior “protein isn’t cut, it’s maintained” section pushes back on a common owner belief. That’s current mainstream veterinary nutrition thinking, but flagging it since it may surprise readers expecting the older advice.

The article covers, in order: growth (12–24 weeks), adolescent taper (6–18 months), adult/working maintenance, the senior myth, then the full portion-math worked example for the 32 kg working-line adult (RER → activity multiplier → grams of food → nutrient delivered vs. minimum), and an FAQ.
